How much is a Paris tour with a private guide?
Connoisseur 4h with a state-certified guide is €710 in an E-Class, €840 in a V-Class and €1,000 in an S-Class. The full guided day of 8h is €1,260 / €1,480 / €1,740. The Privilege package, which adds skip-the-line tickets, a Michelin lunch and a private Seine cruise, is quoted individually. The price is fixed and confirmed before you book.
Is the guide with us the whole time, or only at the monuments?
The guide rides in the car with you for the entire booking. Between two sites the commentary continues, which is where much of a city is actually explained. There is no meeting point to find and no time lost regrouping.
What does state-certified mean?
A guide-conférencier holds a national licence issued by the French ministry of culture. It is the qualification required to give commentary inside national monuments and museums such as the Louvre or Versailles. An unlicensed guide cannot legally do so.
Can we do it without a guide?
Yes. The Escapade package is chauffeur only, from €390 for four hours, and the chauffeur gives general commentary in French or English. It suits short layovers and return visits. For a first in-depth visit, the guide is what changes the day.
How far in advance should we book?
A week is comfortable for a half-day. State-certified guides are a small profession in Paris and the good ones are booked early, so for high season, a specific language, or a specialist in one period, count three to four weeks. Pickup from your palace hotel or from CDG is included.
